Jon: Each day begins with the phrase, “and God said,” and then ends with the phrase, “and there was evening and morning.” And this ordering happens in a series of six days. Jon: So you can’t see it, but God is present in the darkness, ready to bring order, so that life can flourish. Tim: The Hebrew word for God’s Spirit is ruakh, which can refer to wind, or breath, or God’s invisible presence. Jon: “And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters.” 4 Because in the midst of those dark waters, God is present. Now, here’s where things start to get interesting. It’s another common way the ancients described the non-reality that preceded creation. Jon: “And darkness was on the face of the deep abyss.” 3 The Chaotic Waters And the next line uses another image to say the same thing. “The land was tohu vavohu,” which means, “unordered and uninhabited.” This is the ancient way of talking about the pre-creation state, what we might call “nothingness.” For the biblical authors, non-existence means having no purpose and no order. Jon: And it reads: “Now the land was wild and waste…” 2 This line is summarizing what’s going to happen in the following narrative, which starts in the next line. And the word for “earth” does not mean “globe” but rather, “the land.” Tim: Now, your Bible translation might say, “the heavens and the earth.” In biblical Hebrew, the word for “heaven” refers simply to the sky above. Now, the opening line of the whole Bible is: “In the beginning God created the skies and the land.” 1 Heaven and Earth It’s a carefully crafted narrative about God creating and ordering the whole cosmos. Tim: And we’re going to look closely at the first page of the book of Genesis. Jon: The first book in the Bible is called Genesis. This is just one of those things as a parent where you have to use your best judgment. Just as when to stop swaddling a baby, there is no one size fits all answer to when to stop using a sleep sack. When to Stop Using a Sleep Sack: How to Tell When It’s Time to Transition Let's explore when to stop using a sleep sack and how to manage this transition smoothly. So, as parents, while we appreciate the benefits of using sleep sacks during the initial months, we must also be ready to recognize the signs that it's time for a change. They might start showing a preference for certain types of clothing or blankets, expressing discomfort or dissatisfaction with the sleep sack they once loved. Similarly, an older baby who has mastered rolling over may feel confined by a sleep sack, leading to restless sleep or frequent awakenings.Īdditionally, as your child grows and their understanding of the world expands, they begin to develop preferences and a sense of autonomy. With growth and increased mobility, a sleep sack may start to become more of a hindrance than a help.įor example, a toddler learning to walk may find a sleep sack restrictive and frustrating, limiting their ability to stand or move around in their crib. When Sleep Sacks Can Become a Hindrance Rather Than a Help This shift might mean they no longer need the same level of comfort and security that a sleep sack provides. As they grow, their sleep becomes less fragmented, with longer periods of deep sleep and fewer waking episodes. These physical milestones necessitate more room for movement, both during awake times and during sleep.īeyond physical development, there are also changes in your baby's sleep patterns. Just like the first tooth or the first word, the day your baby rolls over for the first time is a momentous occasion, marking the beginning of a new chapter in their motor development.Īs exciting as this milestone is, it also signifies that your baby's sleep environment needs to be evaluated for safety and comfort.Ī sleep sack that was perfect for a newborn might restrict the movement of a baby who is learning to roll over, crawl, or stand. The Natural Growth and Development of Babies Allow us to provide a bit more context by explaining the natural growth and development of babies. This is one thing the sleep sack vs swaddle have in common. With these developmental changes, your baby will start needing more freedom to move during sleep. However, as our little ones grow, they begin to develop essential motor skills, such as rolling over, crawling, and eventually standing and walking. They keep our babies cozy, soothe them with a familiar snugness, and reduce the risk of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS ) by eliminating loose blankets in the crib. Sleep sacks play an integral role in this process, particularly during the newborn and early infant stages. Why Do You Need to Stop Using Sleep Sacks Eventually?Īs parents, our ultimate goal is to foster our children's growth and development, helping them reach each new milestone with confidence. įirst, let’s look at why sleep sacks are a temporary solution - not a permanent form of sleepwear. Not only will we help you understand the telltale signs it’s time to move on, but we’ll also share some of our experiences in doing so to help you enjoy a smooth, seamless transition that doesn’t interrupt you or your newborn baby’s bedtime routine. That’s why we’re here to provide clarity on the subject and help you determine when to transition out of sleep sacks and over to something new. The question of when to stop using a sleep sack raises much uncertainty among parents. But this too must come to an end eventually. You’ve moved on from swaddling techniques to sleep sacks. One area that seems to be a constant source of questions for many parents is the topic of sleep - especially as your baby evolves from the newborn stage to becoming a more active and mobile infant or toddler. It's a thrilling ride full of joy, anticipation, a little bit of anxiety, and many questions. No experience compares to the emotional journey of watching your child grow, change, and reach new developmental milestones. MMP-2 knockdown reduced vascular MMP-2 levels and attenuated age-dependent carotid stiffness. Carotid PWV was assessed at baseline, 2 and 4 weeks after start of the treatment. Old WT mice (18- to 21-month old) were treated for 4 weeks with either MMP-2 or scrambled (Scr) siRNA via tail vein injection. Carotid PWV as well as vascular and circulating MMP-2 were elevated with increasing age in mice. MMP-2 levels in the carotid artery and plasma of young (3 months) and old (20-25 months) WT mice were determined. Pulse wave velocity (PWV) was assessed in right carotid artery of wild-type (WT) mice from different age groups. Thus, we aimed to investigate the efficacy of MMP-2 knockdown using small-interfering RNA (siRNA) on age-dependent arterial stiffness. However, the mechanistic link between age-dependent arterial stiffness and MMP-2 remains unclear. Age-dependent stiffening of large elastic arteries is primarily attributed to increased levels of matrix metalloproteinase-2 (MMP-2).
All this will affect the postural alignment as well as biomechanics of the player. Furthermore, players will typically favor a stronger side/leg/foot thus exacerbating wear on certain specific parts of one shoe and not the other. For a cutting sport like basketball, the wear of a shoe is likely going to be concentrated at the medial-toe area of the shoe. Yet with all that said, significant and uneven erasure of the midsole will have devastating consequences on postural alignment. If anything, the shoe may be able to sustain good traction performance for a longer time because it has an entire midsole's worth of material to chew through. I'd conjecture that the loss of grip from wear & tear may actually be less than for normal rubber outsoles. Thus, wearing down the grooves may not have a significant impact on actual traction performance. However this shouldn't be a problem for the Curry 8s because its traction is founded on the premise that its EVA foam is naturally soft and grippy. For typical rubber outsoles, grip diminishes as the grooves on the rubber become worn/frayed with the shoe becoming slippery when the rubber is completely smoothed out. Second, a lack of traction durability is only really relevant if it negatively affects traction performance over time. First, and just to get this out of the way, there's absolutely no pretense about being able to use the Curry 8s outdoors. While such concerns are legitimate, I think they're also overblown. Naturally a completely exposed midsole raises questions about the Curry 8's tractional durability and how this may impact long term traction performance. Other athletic shoes that use a ground-contact foam midsole - for instance the Nike Epic React - will typically have some outsole rubber covering the high-wear areas at the toe or heel to improve durability. Expectedly, the "outsole" on the Curry 8 is very soft compared to normal outsole rubber - grading ~35 on the Shore A scale compared to 50 ~ 80 one normally sees on other basketball shoes.Įxactly how soft is this? From the Shore hardness scales chart above, we can see that this would make it comparable to a pencil eraser. Keep checking back with us as both detailed on foot looks, performance teasers, and a full performance review are all upcoming just as soon as we get the shoes. The Curry Flow 8s don't have a normal outsole rubber and instead rely entirely on a ground-contact EVA midsole to provide both cushioning and grip.
